Old Street Roundabout – London

Tracing its routes back to the 19th Century, Old Street Roundabout continues to serve as a strategic convergence point for various modes of London transport, integrating the Underground, Bus services and cycle lanes as well as a vibrant public space.

Described by TFL as a major project, the latest improvements aimed to significantly upgrade facilities for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport by providing segregated cycle lanes, more bus lanes, a new London underground station entrance and more accessible pedestrian space by removing the roundabout island to form a new peninsula style junction.

As part of the WSP / Morgan Sindall Infrastructure design, Jones of Oswestry ARBORSLOTS were specified to create a truly inspiring new public space for the people who work in or visit the area.

Fabricated in mild steel or stainless steel Jones of Oswestry ARBORSLOT incorporates a series of recessed trays for paving infill, allowing for the continuation of the paving up to the actual tree aperture whilst providing suitable aeration and drainage facilities to enable the tree to flourish.

After the addition of retrospectively fitted ARBORGUARD tree guards also provide strength and vertical support for the trees which had been subject to initial damage by wind.
